For a lot of people, exercising on holiday will not be their idea of fun and relaxation. But for someone like me, who exercises 3 or 4 times a week, and really notices difference in my body from exercising, I do miss having the odd bit of exercise within an easy going holiday. In a week, I'd be pleased if I manage to exercise twice whilst being on holiday, as I don't want to push myself, but I try to take advantage of my new surroundings that might offer a form of exercise. For example, we went exploring round a coastal walk the other day whilst in Santorini, and because we had dressed in our gym gear and only brought a bottle of water with us, we were able to jog whenever we could, to make it more of a work out rather than a slow walk.
I also follow Joe Wickes 'Lean in 15' on Instagram, and he regularly posts videos of how to do HIIt training without using any equipment and requiring very little space. He normally combines 5 easy-ish exercises that you repeat in 30 second burst over a 15 minute period. You get really out of breath and sweaty, and because it's only 15 minutes it's easy to fit in before your morning shower.
From having a shoulder injury, I have bought some Exercise Resistance Bands, and these are very light and travel friendly. Because I've got one of the higher resistances, I fine it still can really give my upper body a decent workout.
I always like to pack my trainers, as a comfortable form of footwear more than anything. But then I know I can always exercise if I want to! When you're on holiday it's quite likely that you'll have easy access to hiring bikes, sea kayaks, and playing tennis, so these are great ways of exercising whilst also the having fun. And rather than just using your hotel swimming pool to quickly cool off, why don't you do a few laps if you can?
